About the Artist

Shelagh was born and spent her younger years in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) where she developed a love of African landscapes.

She was educated at Kingsmead College, Johannesburg and received an art distinction at Arundel, Salisbury. She studied at Natal Art School, Durban, for three years and qualified in 1964. She worked in design for year in Harare, two years in London and ten years in Johannesburg, and then began painting landscape professionally in 1980. In 1989, she relocated to Cape Town where she now a studio in St James, overlooking the beautiful False Bay.

She has numerous solo and group exhibitions in the main centres of South Africa. Her paintings have been reproduced for calendars, cards, magazines and her pints have been distributed both nationally and internationally. She is listed in the Everard Read Gallery manual of top South African artists. Her works are displayed by galleries in Cape Town, Plettenberg Bay, Durban and Johannesburg, and by many large corporations, including a collection of 32 scenes on permanent display at First National Bank Head Office in Johannesburg.

She paints in both watercolours and mixed media to achieve the realism of special African light and atmosphere in the simplistic tranquillity of rural South African scenes.
